HelteRennet 2026 is a seeding race for Birken
When: HelteRennet 2026 takes off at Rauland 28. February 2026, it is not just a folk festival in the mountains – it is also a golden opportunity for everyone who dreams of a better starting position in Birken. The HelteRennet is officially seeding race to Birken.
This means, in short, that the results from HelteRennet can be used to improve or secure seeding for Birkebeinerrennet and other races in the Birken universe.
What does seeding race mean – really?
Birken divides participants into pools based on previous performances. The better your time in an approved seeding race, the further forward you will be in the starting field. This results in shorter queues, smoother flow – and often a better finish time. A seeding race is not a shortcut, but a way to let previous efforts count when the starting gun goes off.
For many, HelteRennet is a perfect choice: A serious race with a competitive feel, but in clear and mountainous surroundings. Rauland offers a high mountain feel, stable winter conditions and trails that test both capacity and technique.
Why choose HelteRennet as a seeding race?
HelteRennet has quickly established itself as a popular trail race for both exercisers and experienced cross-country skiers. The course allows for speed, while the profile is honest enough to differentiate between levels – just what Birken needs for fair seeding.
The fact that the race is held late in February is no disadvantage either. The form is starting to set in, the competitive instinct is sharpened, and Birken is just around the corner.
A heroic effort with ripple effects
Running the HelteRennet isn't just about placement and seeding. It's about standing on the starting line in the high mountains, feeling the winter working with you (and a little against you), and doing something that actually matters later in the season.
HelteRennet 2026 is thus both a goal in itself – and a strategic step on the road to Birken. Mountains, community and a little heroism. Exactly how cross-country skiing should be.
