Winter Activities
Rauland in Telemark offers a wide range of winter experiences, both with and without skis.
At Rauland you can experience everything from skiing, skiing, snowmobiling to dog sledding, ice fishing, swimming, snow and winter activities. See our overview here!
Skates
Do you like to skate? In the city center, the ball pit at Rauland Skule has been converted into an ice rink.
There is water spraying, and the conditions are perfect for skating for both young and old. This is a free and open offer to anyone who wants to get out and get moving.
Snowmobile
Rauland in Telemark is almost alone in Norway in offering recreational driving with snowmobiles on its own prepared trails.
Both snowmobile safaris and guided tours are organised, and it is possible to go completely on your own - several operators offer snowmobile hire with a day licence. If you have your gen snowmobile, you can also buy a day permit directly from Vinje Municipality.

Children's winter eldorado on Vierli
On Vierli the children can ski, go skiing, sledding, drive mini snowmobiles on a track and much more.
Here the children can play all day in our outdoor area with trampolines, swings and tarzan sling. In the fireplace on Vierli Kafeteria We have an indoor play area.

Dogsledding
Dog sledding, or dog sledding as it is called, is a popular and memorable activity for the whole family.
Telemark Husky Tour and Haukeli Husky offers dog sledding in the beautiful high mountain scenery of Rauland, and you can book both short and longer trips.
Kiting
The popular sport of snow kiting has of course taken over Rauland, and the large snow-covered expanses invite fantastic opportunities for kiting.
Powerkite.no holds courses in snow kiting and has skilled instructors who ensure that you can test this sport and not least safely practice kiting on your own. The courses consist of a theory part and a practical part.
Top tour course with Gygra
Rauland and Telemark offer wonderful opportunities for top hiking and randonee. With Gygra you can travel safely and learn everything about avalanche safety in vulnerable areas.
Gygra offers training and guidance, courses and guiding in skiing, avalanches, climbing and, not least, cycling in summer.

If you choose to take the trip to Rjukan, you can visit Rjukanbadet which also has several pool areas, indoor/outdoor jacuzzis and saunas.
Saunas
Treat yourself to some wonderful time in the sauna in scenic surroundings by Uvatn below Vierli.
Below Vierli Kafeteria you will find two saunas, which can easily be booked via a separate app on your phone. The saunas are a popular and good offer for everyone and invite you to a wonderful break after the ski trip.
Ski school and ski lessons
As an attractive and vibrant ski destination, we naturally offer alpine skiing for the whole family - including beginners. We have skilled instructors who are ready to help you get started!

Our ski races are popular and suitable for both beginners and experienced skiers, in short the whole family!
Rauland Skisenter organizes ski races several days in the winter season (Tiurthe games), some weekends and during holidays, both with and without timing.
Sculpture walk on the snow
Put on your skis or snowshoes and visit the Sculpture Vidsyn.
The trip starts at Vierli Cafeteria at the underpass under the county road. Follow the marked track to the top of Vierlithe nut (1100 m above sea level).
Riding
The Equestrian Center in Rauland (RIR) is one of Norway's leading equestrian centers with great offers for children and adults, families and groups.
The riding center has approx. 25 horses, of which approx. 20 in the riding school. Modern stables and riding hall of 20x60 m with grandstand and pleasant riding room. RIR offers both riding school, courses and individual lessons for one or more people.
Rjukan and Vemork
Experience Rjukan with the industrial adventure at Vemork and the cable car Krossobanen.
In Rjukan you will find, among other things, Norwegian Industrial Workers Museum. Here is a lot of war and industrial history from Telemark. From the museum, you have a short way to Krossobanen - or you can drive on to Gaustabanen and "Telemark's roof" - Gaustatoppen.

Hardangervidda National Park Centre
Midway between Rauland and Rjukan, at Skinnarbu, you will find the Hardangervidda National Park Centre.
The center contains an award-winning interactive and technological exhibition about the wild reindeer and its living conditions in the marginal zone of Hardangervidda. An important and educational exhibition and suitable activity for the whole family.
West Telemark Museum
Vest-Telemark is a treasure trove of history, art and cultural heritage. Vest-Telemark Museum runs a total of 11 units - both theme museum, rural garden and art gallery. The main museum is located in Eidsborg above Dalen at the top of the Telemark canal, right next to Eidsborg stave church. Two of the museums are located in Rauland, the Dyre Vaa collections and the Skinnarlands collection.
The wine center
The Vinjesenteret is a national center for poetry and journalism, idyllically located by Lake Vinjevatn in Vinje (between Åmot and Haukeli, along the E-34). The center is part of the Nynorsk cultural center foundation.
In the museum exhibition at the Vinjesenteret, guests get an insight into what poetry and journalism tell about us humans and what it means for us. Here you will find an extract from books and journalism, pictures, quotes, great digital installations, games about source criticism, children's trail, children's wall and reading corner. During the summer season, the center offers daily tours of AO Vinje's childhood home Vinjestoga.
