Norway's most expensive man - the story of the doctor Tore Godal

Thursday, March 26th at 6:00 PM there will be a different theme evening at Raulandsakademiet

Astrid Versto will be the moderator for a conversation between doctor Tore Godal and
the author Aashild Sørheim.

Not everyone knows about the physician Tore Godal. He was born at the rectory in Rauland,
and spent the first seven years of his life there with his three siblings Ingvald, Jon and Ellen.
These childhood years left their mark – he was always a native of Raul – and he feels like it.

Not many people here at home know who Tore Godal is. For decades he has
been central to the global effort against epidemics; some of the world's most dangerous
diseases; leprosy, malaria, Ebola, tuberculosis, AIDS and Covid.

To achieve financial and political support for public health work in poor countries
country, he has found himself most interested in working behind the scenes. He has been able to
national and world-leading politicians, the World Health Organization and the World Bank.
The Bill Gates Foundation gave him $750 million when he wanted to establish Gavi,
the international vaccine alliance. Since 2000, Gavi has helped to vaccinate
more than 1,1 billion children. Godal is the driving force behind CEPI, which is headquartered in
Oslo. CEPI monitors possible outbreaks of global pandemics, and aims to be able to
produce a vaccine within 100 days of an outbreak. CEPI was absolutely crucial in
the development of a vaccine during the covid19 pandemic.

The internationally renowned medical journal "The Lancet" wrote: "...he is a

Stoltenberg has stated: "Tore is the most expensive Norwegian in history. With a possible

Tore Godal dreamed of becoming a district doctor in Rauland when he applied to
medical school, but instead international public health work became his life's path.
The event is a collaboration between the publishing house Historie & Kultur,
Raulandsakademiet and Rauland history club. Song will also be – by the nephew
Aasmund Nordstoga.

There is a sale of the book. After the program there will be coffee, cake and time for a chat.
