In Egner's Footsteps: Steingardskroken at Haddland with Nina Margrete Heilmann

In the summers of 1940 and 1944, Thorbjørn Egner was in Rauland. He cycled around and drew the largest farms in the village and wrote down the small and big things he was told by people who lived there. The book Gamle hus i Rauland was published in 1945, and in 2025 the Rauland Historielag was responsible for a new edition in consultation with Egner's descendants.
On our afternoon tours in 2026, we will follow in some of Thorbjørn Egner's footsteps.
On June 4th at 5:00 PM we will visit Steingardskroken in Haddland. Here we will find, among other things, the old farmhouse from Midtgarden, which Egner says was decorated in 1760 by "Tallev Maalar [..] was the first in Telemark to embark on decorating entire walls and ceilings, and here at Midtgarden it is precisely these works of his that have been preserved to this day" At Steingardskroken we also find houses from, among others, Loftsgarden and Øyfjell. Nina Margrete Heilmann shows us around. To get to Steingardskroken, turn off at Djupedalsvegen at Nordtun, Haddland. Parking at Nordtun or up at Steingardskroken.
