Book presentation: Old houses in Rauland and Old hunting memories on the Hardangervidda plateau

Two old, traditional Norwegian wooden houses with turf roofs on Ner-Mo farm. Drawing in black and white.

On Saturday, December 6, Rauland History Club invites you to a book presentation of not just one, but two current books.

Old houses in Rauland

Together with Åsta Ø. Kostveit and Birger Kjelingtveit, Frøydis Fossli presents this year's edition of the history magazine Old houses in Rauland by Torbjorn Egner. Old houses in Rauland is based on what Egner saw and heard while on vacation in Rauland in the summers of 1940 and 1944. In 2025, the book was published in a new edition that is similar to the original edition that was first published by Torbjørn Egner in 1945. The new edition this year is in close collaboration with the Egner family.

Old hunting memories on the Hardangervidda plateau

If you've traveled a bit in the mountains, you've probably come across many hunting relics from earlier times – such as walls, animal graves, bookshelves and rock formations. Norwegian Wild Reindeer Center South is now publishing a book with this material. Johan Vaa is the editor of the book, and Sigurd Holte, Kjetil Lofstgarden, Håvard Hoftun, Runar Hole and Tore Slinning are co-authors.

Many of these catch memories are registered in the Askeladden database and are available to everyone through Cultural memory search

The book is richly illustrated with pictures and maps, and you can see several of them as part of the book presentation.

Christmas market at Telemarktunet

It is also the same day Christmas market at Telemarstunet. Sale of porridge and freshly baked pastries, sale of crafts and exciting exhibitions. In the cafeteria you can buy coffee and kling.

The book presentation is free.
