"Songa sing on viddi wide".
There is poetry in this line, which was in an old reading book. The name evokes fond memories for so many. The Songa is a watercourse with a lot of sogesus, from prehistoric times and centuries onwards, with wealth in hunting and fishing. A separate dam lies above the Berunuten mountain range. Songa became a central place for the resistance movement during the last world war. The watercourse development from the 1960s brought major changes to the landscape. With the purchase of a large area around Songavatni, the area has become easily accessible with open cabins for the general public, to the delight of everyone who likes to experience the mountains
This book is a new and expanded edition of Rauland Bygdelag: Songa 1983. Since this book has been out of print for many years, there was a great desire to have the book published again, but then in a revised and expanded form. This is how it came out as an annual report for 2009 for Rauland Historielag. Most of the material from the first edition has been included, and is placed between new material and marked with the year 1983. The authors are mentioned next to the articles, and a list of photographers can be found at the back of the book. Birger Kjelingtveit and Øystein Kostveit from the history team sat on the writing board together with Lasse Mathisen from Vinje municipality.
The book is unfortunately sold out.
