On December 1, Tomas Perers and Katarina Norel took over the operation of Rauland HøgfjellshotellWith extensive experience from the tourism and hotel industry, they now want to make the hotel more accessible and attractive to more guests.

Perers has previously worked at large mountain destinations such as Trysil, Hemsedal and Kvitfjell, and together with his wife has run a hotel in Nordfjord since 2016. Now the focus is on the mountain area in Telemark.

– We have to build stone by stone and find out what works. First, it's about becoming more visible in the right sales channels and through Visit Telemark, he says.

One of the first things new drivers do is look at the price level. Perers is clear that current prices have been too high.

– We have to deal with what the market is willing to pay. We are right next to skisenterand should offer rooms with good beds and a good breakfast, but we can't charge twice as much for a hotel room as, for example, Austbø Hotell, says Perers.

Minor upgrades, such as replacing beds and parts of the interior, are also on the plan.

The new operators also want to create more life at the hotel and attract both cabin guests and other visitors to the area. Among the ideas being considered are a strengthened food and beverage offering, daytime events on weekends and the possibility of takeaway.
