Theme evening: Lecture about Sigrun Berg

Together with Rauland Husflidslag, we invite you to the year's last themed evening and lecture about Sigrun Berg, one of the greatest textile artists of the post-war period, with close ties to Rauland. The speaker is Liv Klakegg Dahlin, author of  Sigrun Berg – Weaving and working which came out in 2024.

Sigrun Berg (1901 -1982) was a leading figure in Norwegian textile art, and has left her mark on design, fashion and the Norwegian textile industry. "Everyone" had a Sigrun Berg shawl or other garment in the 1970s, including famous personalities such as Erik Bye, Thorbjørn Egner and Liv Ullmann. Sigrun Berg was also a businesswoman and social entrepreneur and got women into work, both in her weaving mill, Sigrun Berg Vevstue in Oslo, and in the rest of the country.

The production and work was varied. In addition to her own production, she was a consultant and designer for several textile manufacturers, perhaps best known for Røsos Tweed. She also had several large decoration assignments – such as Håkonshallen in Bergen, Bodø Cathedral and Kongeskipet. Sigrun Berg is also the one who designed the stage curtain in Vinjesalen at Raulandsakademiet.

Sigrun Berg and Rauland

Sigrun Berg was an acquaintance of Thora Vaa, and came to Rauland in 1937-38. She lived in Rauland for several years, getting to know both the people and the culture. In the 1960s she gave weaving of both shawls and blankets for sale in the weaving workshop in Oslo.
