Hunting season is underway – be considerate when traveling in nature

Late summer and autumn are a fantastic time for hiking in the mountains and forests of Rauland. At the same time, this time marks the start of the year's hunting season, and we therefore remind everyone traveling in the outback to be aware and considerate.

Hunting traditions are strong in Vinje, and throughout the autumn there will be hunting for deer, wild reindeer, stags and moose. With many active hunting groups in the municipality, you can therefore meet hunters when you are out hiking.

Hunting times:

• Deer: 10 August to 23 December
• Wild reindeer: 20 August to 22 September
• Deer: 1 September to 23 December
• Moose: 25 September to 23 December

Nature is for everyone

It is still safe and enjoyable to use nature throughout the hunting season. The wilderness is for everyone, but a few simple precautions can make it easier for both hikers and hunters to travel side by side.

Vinje Municipality recommends, among other things, that:

• dress visibly, preferably in bright colors
• use marked trails and dirt roads
• choose hiking trails and roads close to the city center during periods of high hunting activity
• Contact hunters you meet and ask where the hunt is taking place.
• show consideration for hunters, other hikers and the game

The bulk of the hunting takes place in the first weeks of the hunting season, and activity will therefore vary throughout the fall.

There's no reason to leave your hiking boots at home. The autumn colors, the clear mountain air and the great hiking opportunities make this one of the most beautiful periods of the year in Rauland.
