Deer and moose hunting in the fall – be considerate

Published: 20.08.2025 12:08

Remember that there is wild reindeer, deer and roe deer hunting in the autumn mountains.

The wild reindeer hunt is underway, and later this fall the moose hunt is also on the way.

Landowners in the municipality have hunting rights and management duties over the game resources on their properties. There are long traditions in Vinje of harvesting the game resources we have, and the game is a resource of great importance. It is a resource that must be managed in a good and sustainable way, and autumn is an important season in this respect.

With about 70 elk and deer hunting groups in the municipality, there will be many hunters in the outback at times. It is therefore inevitable to encounter them from time to time.

Most of the hunting takes place on weekends, at first perhaps even the entire first week. The bulk of the hunting takes place over the first 3-4 weekends, with very little in November and December.

The outdoors is for everyone, but it's important to be considerate. Maybe take your walk to a slightly different location than usual?

Deer hunting mainly takes place on “all areas” in the municipality. Roe deer, elk and red deer are hunted below the tree line and wild reindeer above.

Custom signs

AAll hunting teams in Rauland and Haukeli have access to signs that can be placed wherever appropriate.

Vinje municipality's advice to those who use the fields in autumn is:

  • Dress in bright/bright colors.
  • Use the dirt roads and the marked paths.
  • Use the paths/vegans near the city centre, especially on the first weekends.
  • Contact the hunters you meet, ask for information about where they hunt and where you should go.
  • Show consideration for each other!
