Viktor Wilhelmsen

Viktor Wilhelmsen is a Sami-Kven-Norwegian musician from Čuđegieddi / Kistrand in Porsanger. He is a doctoral fellow in artistic development at NTNU, where he researches North Sami yoik and multidimensional rhythms. With roots in a Sea Sami culture, he continues the traditions through his artistic work.

Wilhelmsen has lived in Trondheim since 2005 and has established himself as a prominent musician and educator. He holds a master's degree in performing jazz guitar from the jazz department at NTNU and has released three solo albums, the latest of which, Knip igjen yygune (2019), was nominated for the Spellemannprisen.
In addition to many solo concerts, he has recently been heard with the guitar trio Varpet (with two albums since 2024), in Hanna Paulsberg's composition Do You Want My Job? for Vossa Jazz 2024, in the band Johavi with John André Eira and Hans Hulbækmo, with the commissioned work Afrojoik for Varangerfestivalen 2024 written together with John André Eira and Ola Vårtun from the band Gabba, and in the Kven work Kaipu, which he wrote together with Svein Schultz and Mariann Torset under the direction of Nordnorsk Jazzsenter, together with Arve Henriksen, among others. He also plays regularly at blues festivals with Daniel Eriksen, Stig Sjøstrøm and Mattis Kleppen.
