Concert: The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc

We recommend purchasing tickets for the concert in advance: eTicket: Nordic Fiddlers Bloc
When Kevin Henderson (Shetland), Olav Luksengård Mjelva (Norway) and Anders Hall (Sweden) met for the first time in 2009, a very unique sound emerged – an interaction that still inspires the trio, more than fifteen years and around 700 concerts later.
The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc is today considered one of the leading chamber folk groups in the Nordic region. With fiddle, Hardanger fiddle, octave fiddle and viola, they create a large and nuanced soundscape that is often compared to a string quartet expression – intense, precise and full of energy. The music springs from the rich tonal traditions of Shetland, Sweden and Norway, but is shaped in a close and listening interaction where each phrase is chiseled out with great care.
The trio has released three critically acclaimed albums: The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc (2011), Deliverance (2016) and Bonfrost (2020). Bonfrost in particular marked a further deepening of the trio format, with both joint arrangements and solo pieces that highlight the different traditions and playing styles of each. The recognition has been great, including a Spellemannpris in folk music and a place on Songlines Magazine's “Top of the World” list.
The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc has played at major festivals and concert venues around the world, including Celtic Connections, Celtic Colours on Cape Breton and Tønder Festival, and regularly collaborates with musicians from both the jazz and art music fields.
As dedicated tradition bearers and communicators, they are also behind
The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc Fiddle Camp, an annual international fiddle camp gathering that will be held in Seljord in August 2026. At the same time, the trio continues to work on new repertoire and new projects, constantly searching for the next musical meeting place between tradition, sound and community playing.
