The band Reitir is a quintet fronted by Åsmund Nordstoga, Sarah Jane Summers and Ingebjørg Lognvik Reinholdt. On their first record (spring 2024), they present dialect translations of the Scottish folk poet Robert Burns' popular lyrics, to the original melodies from the Scottish song tradition.
Peter Fjågesund has translated a large amount of the Scottish national poet Robert Burns' poems into West Telemark dialect. Burns's poems were used to show the singing of traditional melodies, just like many of Telemark's most popular poets.
Two Kvedars from Telemark, one of today's best fiddle players from Scotland (Sarah Jane Summers) and self-made Juhani Silvola on guitar and Morten Kvam on double bass have made a record of this. There will be new fresh arrangements on Scottish folk tunes and sloughs, and everything in sounding western telemeals.
With inspiration from quaking and rooting in Sarah Jane's Scottish tradition, the concert becomes its own tiny borderland, a town in the North Sea that pays tribute to dialects, folk tunes and the close poetry of the folk poet Burns.
Reitir appeared and did its first tour in 2020-2021, with the repertoire that is now coming out on record, and experienced a very good reception from the audience.
