Harding fiddle and harding cello solo and in concert
Ottar Kåsa and Helene Waage inaugurated Ottar's newly built Harding cello during the Telemark Festival in 2023, to great excitement from the audience. At Rauland, they play a whole concert together for the first time, both solo and in concert. Ottar has solid roots in Norwegian traditional music, while Helene chooses folk music from several parts of the world, especially Norway and Eastern Europe. In this concert, they will explore the magical interplay between the Harding fiddle and the Harding cello in several new arrangements that range from slow tones to driving beats.
Ottar Kåsa (harding fiddle) has given concerts at home and abroad, won the Landskappleiken four times, and released two prize-winning solo records. He also plays in the folk music group Resjemheia, which has released three critically acclaimed albums. Ottar has a master's in folk music from USN and lives in Bø. Ottar is also a fiddle maker and has built a number of desirable Harding fiddles, and has developed and built a Harding viola and a Harding cello.
Helene Waage (harding cello) has worked for many years as a versatile freelance musician, among other things with Norwegian folk music in the trio Glima, Eastern European music with Gjertrud's Gypsy Orchestra, cross-artistic projects, and as a therapeutic musician in care for the elderly. Helene has a music education from NMH and UiO, and has recently obtained a doctorate at UiA. Currently, she works 50% as a university lecturer at the National Competence Center for Culture, Health and Care.
